An additional notice for anyone interested in participating in a community meeting regarding a new 6-month program called Sustainable Annapolis.

Dear Neighborhood leader,                  ,
The City of Annapolis' Department of Neighborhood & Environmental Programs (DNEP) e Annapolis Environmental Commission would like to invite you and your membership to participate in a community meeting on September 11th, at 7:30PM in the city council chambers. This meeting will kick off a new city program: Sustainable Annapolis, which will mark the beginning of a six-month public outreach period designed to gather input for the creation of a city sustainability plan. In its most basic form, sustainability means that we are meeting the environmental, social, and economic needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

The goal of Sustainable Annapolis is to establish a long-term program that will promote and facilitate citizen and government action to build green, thriving neighborhoods. Actions could include the promotion of energy efficiencies, water conservation, transportation alternatives, program and incentives for local businesses to go green, and the development of green jobs.

This kick-off event will provide the public with an overview of the program, go over our greenhouse gas emissions inventories, and discuss our program goals. The sustainability plan will include a climate action plan for both the city and the city government, and will include short-term, practical solutions along with long-term visions for the city. We expect that goals will be set for the city to achieve in both their climate protection and sustainability action, and an annual report card will be produced for the city council and the public.

We will be holding public meetings with civic associations and other organizations in local neighborhoods to solicit comments and ideas from the public. The public will be able to submit comments at the meetings, through paper forms at locations throughout the city, or through the city's sustainability program website.

Please promote this event to your membership. We have included a flyer for your use and information. Additional materials can be downloaded from the program website at www.SustainableAnnapolis.gov . For more information, you can call Rob Savidge at (410) 263-7946 or email SustainableAnnapolis@Annapolis.gov .

Sincerely,
Ellen Moyer Mayor
