Food Bank Update
The food bank desperately needs donations of canned fruits and vegetables, canned soups, stews, or pasta meals, canned tuna or chicken, and jelly. (We're well stocked on macaroni and cheese and peanut butter.) We hand out an average of 12 bags per week to neighbors in need here in Eastport. If you would like to help, but hauling canned goods isn't your style, please consider a donation to help us cover food purchases.
When we organized the pantry recently, we found several gourmet items that are difficult to use for the food bank. Rather than let them go to waste, we are inviting you to a "food swap" during coffee hour after the 10 o'clock service on Sunday, July 15th. For every donation of two items from the list above (or a cash donation of $2), choose a gourmet item that you can put to good use.
We will also be recruiting volunteers to help prepare the bags (any weekday morning) and to assist with handing out food on Thursday mornings. St. Luke's is committed to these duties one to two weeks of every month, with other weeks being covered by the other area churches. If you can help with either of these tasks, please contact Shannon Talbott or Deacon Charles.
